Here’s our first look at Intel’s new secret GPU

Intel has finally revealed what its discrete graphics cards will look like. During its announcement of its mobile graphics cards, Intel confirmed that a limited edition version of its Discrete GPU will be coming this summer.

In theory, this card will position itself to feature a power connector of some sort. You can see such an element on the render in the video; however, there is not one present on the final product, as it is likely that there will be a need for additional power beyond what a single PCIe slot can provide (up to 75W). This but doesn’t mean that the render of a product matches the final product even though they are surprisingly detailed.

Intel has not yet released full specifications for their discrete GPUs, but early rumours suggest that they will be aiming to compete with mid- to high-end cards. Perhaps up to RTX 3070/Ti or RX 6700 XT-grade. It is known that their GPUs will come with many of the optimisations and features announced with Intel’s mobile Arc GPUs, as they both share the same Xe-HPG architecture.

Intel has announced that it will be adding support for XeSS, its own upscaling algorithm, to the seventh generation of its processors. The company will also be using a new GPU in this next-generation processor design, built around the company’s Xe-core. This GPU will also be comprised of Intel’s new AI acceleration engine as well as a new media engine.

Intel’s graphics cards have been a long time coming, with rumours suggesting that the summer release date really means sometime from May to June.

Pricing is the biggest piece of the puzzle we’re missing today. We need to know where AMD plans to place its chips in the market, and whether or not the company can get enough volume from its foundry partners to help drop prices for entry-level PCs.
